Fender Stratocaster

Fender Stratocaster RentalThe Fender Stratocaster (AKA “Strat”)  is an electric guitar that was designed by Leo Fender, George Fullerton and Freddie Tavares in 1954. It has been in production continuously ever since it’s release, and has one of the most copied ‘bodies’, along with the Gibson Les Paul.

The Strat’s “Comfort Contour Body” differs from the flat design of the Telecaster. The double cutaways allow easier access to the high positions on the neck. The one-piece maple neck is wider than the very narrow Telecaster’s shape and the strings are anchored on a through-body pivot bridge. The volume on all three pickups is controlled by a single knob, which is placed strategically to make manipulation of the sound easier. Over the years the guitar has seen numerous adjustments in it’s cosmetic appearance and function.

Buddy Holly was one of the first performers to popularize the Stratocaster, and used it on nearly every song with The Crickets. Other artists known for their use of this guitar include Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, The Beach Boys and The Beatles.
